A 58-year-old DySP of Madhugiri sub-division, A. Ramachandrappa has been remanded in judicial custody after a video clip of him in a compromising position with a woman at his office went viral. The DySP was remanded to judicial custody at Madhugiri jail after being produced before a court in Tumakuru district on Saturday morning.
The video, which emerged on Thursday, prompted Ramachandrappa’s arrest on Friday. This was followed by State Police Chief Alok Mohan suspending him and ordering a departmental enquiry. The woman, aged 30, alleged in a video, lodged a complaint against the DySP at the Madhugiri police station on Friday.
The DySP has been booked under different sections, including sexual intercourse by a person in authority (BNS 68), sexual harassment (BNS 75), and word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman (BNS 79)
Speaking on the case, Ashok KV, Superintendent of Police of Tumakuru district, told TNSE: "The DySP was arrested based on the complaint filed by the 30-year-old woman. He was presented in court on Saturday and has been remanded in judicial custody.”
The alleged incident took place at the DySP's office where he was allegedly being filmed on a mobile camera in uniform. In the 35-second video, a recording was made through a window outside his office. The woman, seeing that she was being recorded, screamed.
Police sources has revealed that the woman had come to the DySP’s office to lodge a complaint in regard to a land dispute.
Confirming the suspension, Labhu Ram, Central Range inspector general of police (IGP), said: "The DySP has been suspended over the incident."
